Market Information:

Plastics are among the fastest-growing industries in India, experiencing a double-digit growth rate on average. The Indian plastics market is comprised of around 30,000 companies and employs 4 million people. The Indian plastics industry is expected to grow at an annual rate of 8-10%, with domestic polymer consumption expected to double by 2028.

The industry manufactures and exports a variety of raw materials, laminates, electronic accessories, medical ware, and consumer goods. These plastic products are exported to more than 150 countries, mainly in Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The growth rate of the Indian plastics industry is among the highest in the world, with plastics consumption growing at 16% per year (compared to 10% p.a. in China and around 2.5% p.a. in the UK). By 2020, Plastics consumption of India is set to increase from the current 12 million metric tonnes per annum to 20 million metric tonnes annually.

It is reported that 62 million tons of waste is generated annually in the country and out of that, around 5.6 million tons is plastic waste. The industry pledged to raise recycling with consumption slated to touch 20MT/year by 2020.
